Precious metals were almost flat for a decade, crypto swing like crazy, bond rates goes up and down making the market value fluctuate like crazy. To top it all off, then you have inflation, and a non-zero possibility of hyper-inflation around the corner. The barter economy is the ultimate safe-heaven, yeah wear and tear reduce the value..
