Tom Dante is the only one I can think of. Now mind you his trading is discretionary (it makes no sense to teach a purely mechanical strategy anyway for liquidity reasons, your edge erodes by teaching it to others) so after going through his stuff you will still need years to actually git gud, but it's like 3 years of dedicated work instead of 10 years of fucking around then quitting.

Frankly I don't know my econ history well enough to answer this question. I'm a chemistry guy not an economics guy. However there are other commodities with more contracts than physical so this is simply business as usual. The short answer is simply that more money can be made this way. Some posters say that paper manipulation keeps the price low so industry can afford raw materials just like oil but I don't have a deep understanding of that argument
