Bitcoin has to touch the physical world to succeed because we are material creatures who cannot eat zeros and ones. Gold and silver happen to be the most "Bitcoin-like" physical materials, therefore they represent an obvious crossover point for a bridge. What I'd propose is a decentralized network of physical/digital marketplaces. A combination of robust physical and digital opsec could make these exchanges almost impossible to locate.
