I don't believe that is how people are using it though. VT is a better choice than VOO for everything except the fees. Personally I'm in VWRP, but just get broad exposure on a world ETF, keep saving, and prepare for an extremely boring couple of decades. You might want to put about 5% (and not more) into gold since there's backtest data suggesting this reduces the length of long drawdowns.
