You might think you want to hold, but it technically means that cash is getting more attractive. Bonds going up signals that governments need to restrict cash circulating. And that means less cash to pump metals and markets. However, in the post 2008 economy, growth on paper is the forever goal. So i'm sure there will be some intervention soon (another big BRRRRRR, coinciding with some major world event). And the can kicking shitshow of the western economies will go on for another few years.

It's a political decision, they could "just" raise taxes and reduce government spending. I think the positive effect of a lower interest rate on economic growth would be greater than the negative effect higher taxes would have on growth. So the "just" is that it is unpalatable for the voter.
