The thing is it is possible to get a mortgage without a credit score, but it requires quite a lot of shopping around. You need to find a bank/CU willing to do "manual underwriting", which is the way creditworthiness was determined prior to credit bureaus. This process actually happens in all mortgages eventually, but without a credit score, you are asking lenders to put in all that legwork at the very start of the process, when it is possible that you're just shopping rates and will bail on them
